Born in the town of Pimentel, Dominican Republic, arrived in NYC with his family in 1981 and immersed themselves in Inwood, 204th Street and Sherman Avenue. He grew up with Neruda, Buesa, Merengue, The NY Daily News, Beisbol, and with La Enriquecida “Cooltura” de mi Gente Bella.
Ysmael has Honorable degrees in Communication and Media Studies minor in Journalism, and a Masters degree in Education from Fordham University, proudly by way of Bronx Community College.
He has worked in the Greater New York City area in a diversity of nonprofit organizations serving young people, especially the Hispanic community; he is a published writer, and worked in supervision for fifteen years at NY-Presbyterian Hospital. For the past twenty two years he has been an administrator at Fordham University.
Ysmael became an honored Board member of the NDDP in 2022, with eagerness to serve, as an emblematic and profound embrace of his Dominican heritage.
He resides in Woodlawn, The Bronx, with his beautiful wife and two amazing sons.
