NEW YORK, NY [July 23, 2024]— The National Dominican Day Parade Board, led by Chair Cristina Contreras, is thrilled to announce the legendary merengue band Los Hermanos Rosario as Grand Marshals for the upcoming 42nd National Dominican Day Parade. This prestigious recognition will be celebrated at the Gala, where Los Hermanos Rosario will also treat attendees to a special musical performance.
This year’s parade will see the charismatic Jochy Santos crowned as the King of the Parade, while the energetic and talented Bulín 47 will grace the event as the International King. Together, they embody the spirit and enthusiasm of the Dominican community.
We are also proud to announce that Pedro Brache Álvarez, CEO of Grupo Rica, will serve as the Padrino of the parade. Additionally, the board is excited to honor Antonio Espaillat, a distinguished business leader from the Dominican Republic, as the Cacique del Emprendimiento, recognizing his significant contributions to entrepreneurship.
Join us in celebrating Dominican culture, heritage, and community spirit at the biggest celebration of Dominicanidad! Be part of history and experience the joy and exuberance of this spectacular event.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM UPDATE
This year, the NatDDP scholarship program has seen an unprecedented response, with 520 phase one applications received, more than double last year’s total. The applicants include 50% high school students, 30% graduate students, 20% undergraduates, and a handful from trade schools.
From these, 125 finalists were chosen to proceed to Phase II, which included comprehensive evaluations such as essays, recommendation letters, and interviews that began in July. The winners, numbering between 35 to 50, will be announced at the Gala on August 9 and will participate in the parade on August 11. Scholarship disbursements will occur in December, with amounts up to $10,000 based on academic performance, financial need, and community involvement.
Since 2015, over $1 million has been awarded to 255 deserving students. Further details about the scholarship can be found at NatDDP Scholarships.
