Press Release – By-Law Changes

December 30, 2022 by Dominican |

For Immediate Release

December 30, 2022

New York, NY- The National Dominican Day Parade issues the following statement.

During this holiday season, we at NatDDP reflect on the past year and are grateful.

We experienced many successes and accomplishments and could not do so without the support of the community. The community is at the core of our work. We are an organization that belongs to you. As such, we thank you for trusting us to continue to uplift and empower the Dominican legacy.

As we welcome a New Year, we also welcome the opportunity to better serve you. On December 12, 2022, the NatDDP Board gathered for the purpose of discussing leadership and enhancing our bylaws to reflect the mission and objectives of todays’ NatDDP. During this meeting, there were the following developments:

The terms of senior board members Maria Lizardo, Wilton Cedeno, Leonardo Ivan Dominguez, Bernardo Rodriguez, and Maria Khury were extended by two years.

The term of our board Chair, Cristina Contreras, has also been extended for two years. We understood that this decision was necessary for the continuity of parade activities and as we develop training for future leaders and a concrete succession plan. We are excited to maintain the knowledge and expertise on the Board.

The process of building and securing future leadership has already started. Effective January 1, 2023, the Scholarship Committee (SC) will have new leadership. Maria Khury, current co-Chair, will step down as co-chair; her invaluable and transcendental contributions will continue as a member and advisor. We have no words to thank her for her relentless service and the impact she has made in the lives of many Dominican youth throughout the years.  We know that organizing, succession, fundraising, and mentoring have always been at the core of Maria’s participation with NatDDP and trust that the program will continue to be a success.  We are excited to announce that the Committee will be led by José Martinez and Alexander Nuñez Torres as Co-Chairs of the committee.

We also announce the departure of Remysell Salas, Annie Minguez, and Estela Vasquez from the Board. We are grateful for their time and service. We would not be where we are without their contributions. They will forever be part of the NatDDP family.

We thank all our Sponsors and Partners for your continued commitment to the NatDDP and the Dominican community. We look forward to engaging you and our community in all our 2023 events and activities.

We thank you again, our community, for trusting us to ensure the future success of the NatDDP and look forward to an amazing year.

In gratitude and service,

NatDDP
