Alexander Núñez-Torres has been working in academia since 2012 and at Lehman College from the City University of New York since 2016. He obtained a Ph.D. in Finance from University of Puerto Rico. He has worked on research related to mortgages, banking system, corporation finance and asset markets. His research interest are risk assessment and bank analysis, corporate finance, public policy and behavioral finance. He has published his research works in the Journal of Financial Economics, Research Finance Letters, and other scientific journals. He has worked in research projects with colleagues from different schools such as, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, Business and Marketing International School at Sergio Arboleda University, and the Business School at Santo Domingo Institute of Technology.
His research, discussion and interests led him to participate in international conferences such as Financial Management Association (FMA), Southern Finance Association (SFA), Eastern Finance Association (EEA), The Business Association of Latin American Studies (BALAS) and The Latin American Council of Management Schools (CLADEA). His work has also been presented in professional settings such as the Cubist seminar from Point 72.
Alexander is also involved in community-based research: “The Case Studies for small businesses” is a project founded in collaboration with Martha Lerski. They are founders of a repertoire of open access case studies addressing concrete Business and community issues specific to participating small companies and organizations as way of engaging students, and a step towards serving the Bronx and similar communities. In addition, he is currently involved in a research project assessing the Financial Literacy for Lehman College undergraduate community, in order to develop the foundational work for financial literacy interventions for students.
Born in the Dominican Republic, Alexander arrived to the US in 2016 to work for Lehman College. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering at the Institute of Technology of Santo Domingo, where he graduated with honors. Alexander recently bought an apartment in the Bronx where he already is creating new roots to the community. Some of his non-academic interests and hobbies are traveling, attending theater and musicals.
